alternative-energy-mutual-funds-socially-responsible-investingAre you looking for a place to invest your money? A good area to consider investing in is alternative energy. It is anticipated that alternative energy production will be in the billion dollar range by 2013. For instance, wind turbine technology has become more widespread due to the advancement in technology and decrease in cost. This has resulted in wind technology being really competitive against more conventional types of energy producing products. Wind technology has become improved that birds are no longer getting unintentionally killed.

You wouldn’t want put your hard-earned money into something that doesn’t provide assistance to the environment. Another area to think about are solar cell investments, or solar cell technology. You will be able to find these in private property lights, calculators, buoys used by the US Coast Guard, and many other places.

Photovoltaic cells are being used on more and more roofs of commercial buildings, as well as housing developments and building complexes. As prices continue to fall, the efficiency of solar arrays continues to get better. This efficiency is estimated by the amount of energy necessary to produce versus the amount of energy generated.

Back in 1982, the silicon cells’ conversion efficiency was about four percent but these days, it is above 20 percent. Photovoltaic cells does not produce any pollution when generating electricity but it is not economical enough to replace traditional electricity. Since large amounts of photovoltaic cells are required to generate large amounts of electricity, they are not ready for producing electricity on a large scale. But as areas are converted to implement these cells, the price and efficiency will continue to improve. As the research and development of alternative energy continue, advisors who manage investments are recommending people to invest in it.

hydro-powerNew forms of green energy are originating from tidal movement, currents, and differences in temperature. Utilizing hydro-power is progressing well in France and being researched in Scotland and the US. There has been a problem with saltwater causing metal deterioration but the materials employed these days are making hydro-power possible. Also before, really severe storms and unusual marine growth also caused problems in using hydro-power effectively. However, we do know that the timing of ocean waves and currents is really consistent thus making it a sure energy source.

In the last several decades, money invested in hydro-electric technology has gone up. The power it generates is clean but hydro-electric energy is limited by geography. Large, older dams, while already important as energy generators, have had problems with marine life disruption. In an effort to protect the marine life, those dams have been improved and the improvements have been pricy. Due to this, there have been a great deal of research in developing low-impact hydro-power technology that doesn’t negatively affect the environment. Bottom line, investing your  dollars in eco-friendly energy  is the way  to go.
